Location: Staff Attendance Cottage # 4

Interconnectedness is a tribute to the Moonah/Melaleuca Lanceolata plant community which is synonymous with the Nepean Peninsula
The work symbolises the union between the Moonah plant community’s individuals, the interconnection between their roots and ancient twisted branches.
Interconnectedness acts as an abstract representation of the original Moonah’s forest before European settlement, when Melaleuca Lanceolata/Moonah dominated the grassy Woodlands of the Nepean Peninsula sharing the calcareous land with other few indigenous tree species such as She-Oaks/Allocasuarin Verticillata and Banksia Intergrifolia.
Interconnectedness reflects on Moonah’s quality of being a source of plenty: its bushy habit that makes it a sheltered environment for insects, birds and mammals alike; its dense canopy which protects understory vegetation such as moss and herbs; and its long flowering periods (October to March) that provide sweet nectar for honey eaters, sugar gliders and possums.
Interconnectedness is a celebration of this extremely long lived species and its hardy and generous souls.
